EDUC 816: Prep for Classes 5-6, and Your Reflection Papers

Hello,

I am pleased to confirm that Dr. Catherine Cunningham-Dunlop will join us as a guest speaker for a portion of our next class on February 24/25. Cathie is a dear friend and highly esteemed former colleague. Having served as SFU's Director of Research and Evaluation for thirteen years, her range of experiences with assessing various populations' learning needs, evaluating educational programs, and always honouring the context in which learning interactions occur is very rich. I have no doubt that you will find Cathie's expertise, professional thoughtfulness, and highly relational personality a great resource and a source of inspiration in our class conversation.

In preparation for the February 24/25 class, please read Chapters 4 and 5 of our main text. And if the theme of the upcoming class — how evaluation can inform program design, development, and implementation — is of particular interest to you, see if you can get hold of Patton, M.Q. (2011). Developmental evaluation: Applying complexity concepts to enhance innovation and use. New York, NY: The Guilford Press (or another piece by this author). As always, I also wish to encourage you to think about your own pursuits or challenges as they relate to evaluation in health education programming, and bring your experiences, ideas, and questions to our class discussion.

Thank you; I look forward to continuing our conversation on February 24/25.

Michal
