Technical Questions on Blogging

Good Morning,

How are you? I hope well. Since beginning this blogging exercise, I've received a range of technical questions. For future reference, I've posted below a few my responses to them. Hope this helps!

1) Is there a way to prioritize your blog postings? For example, if I want my Friday entry to present before the Thursday entry?

Blogs are formatted to read most current entry first. To alter this, please follow the directions below:

Go into "Dashboard".
Click on "Posting".
Click on "Edit Posts".
You'll then see a listing of all the post entries you've made.
Click on "Edit Post" to the one you want to edit and then down below the post you'll see "Post Options".
Click on "Post Options" and edit your "Post Time and Date" to have the blog site read in the order you prefer.

2) I have typed a few word doc. summaries of my class notes/articles. Is there a way to link them to my blog, but for my viewing/access only?

Blogs were predominantly designed to insert only images. Documents have to be posted indirectly via links in your blog posts. Using Google Docs will help you do this.

Log into your gmail account.
Click on "Documents".
Click on "Upload".
Select file.
You'll see "Upload settings".
Click on "Convert Documents".
Click on "Start Upload".
If done properly, you'll see "Upload Complete".
Now click on "Share".
Confirm that it says "Private - Only the people listed below can access".
Your name should be the only one listed.
If you click on "Change" you'll see 3 options:
- Public on the web: Anyone on the Internet can find and access. No sign-in required.
- Anyone with the link: Anyone who has the link can access. No sign-in required.
- Private: Only people explicitly granted permission can access. Sign-in required.
Confirm "Private" is selected.
Click "Save".
Click "Done".
Now Logout.
Log back into your blog (which should simultaneously log you into your gmail account).
Click on "New Post".
Click back into your gmail account and click on "Documents".
Click on the desired document to post.
Look at the "URL" at the top of the page and copy and paste that "URL" of your document into your blog post.
Click on "Publish Post".
Click on "View Blog".

You'll see the URL of the document listed in your post. If you copy and paste that into your browser, while you're logged into your blog, then only you will have access to that document. However, if you are logged out of your blog, you will not have access to the document (this includes anyone else who views your URL on your blog and attempts to copy and paste the link).

3) How do I reduce the size of my photo?

In general, the photographs that you take with your digital device are much too large for uploading to the blog. In order to compress their size, you’ll have to use a photo software program and reduce the image to about a 3 x 4.

Here is a YouTube video I recently watched that helps explain this.

For those of you unfamiliar with photo software programs, you can also adjust photo size (to some extent) when you upload your picture to blogger. Here are the instructions:

Click on the new post you want to create.
Click on the image icon in the menu.
Click on "Add an image from your computer".
Select the photo from your computer that you want to upload from your desktop.
Notice on the far right of the menu: "Image size".
You have "Small, Medium, Large" options.
Click on "Small".
Then click on "Upload Image".

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Jacqueline
