Our discussion in class about curriculum was incredibly interesting and insightful. I appreciated your professional and personal opinions and perspectives about how we plan and design educational content. This active exchange reminded me of the charettes I participated in during my Urban Design coursework. We would frequently engage in a brainstorming discussion and arrive at some very fascinating intersections. We would then proceed to take photographs of the whiteboards displaying our notes to preserve the discoveries made. I was thinking that maybe one of the HEAL cohort members might consider capturing the keywords on the board and then uploading these images to their blog as a reference for the class. Just an idea and a way to build on the concepts discussed!
I recall the significance of context and time as we unpacked the meaning of curriculum. Here is the excerpt from my dissertation that I mentioned defining formal and non-formal campus space. The table is fairly self-explanatory but if you are interested in learning more or accessing the sources, please feel free to download the dissertation and click on page 25.
Hope this helps!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Jacqueline
Hi Jacqueline,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this post! I love the idea of taking pictures of our whiteboard discussions as a way to capture our learning throughout the year. I've been taking pictures of my own little post-its and putting them on my blog as well!
Thank you for sharing the learning environment resources. I did a photovoice mini project when I volunteered as a Student Health Advocacy Committee member at SFU where I took pictures of different learning spaces and used them as a way to explain these differences and the meaning captured in the photos. It was fascinating how much the design of a space can create or inhibit different types of learning and experiences! A potential idea for a personal side project for myself...as I love taking photos and creating meaning/discussion out of them!
Hi Lehoa!
DeleteThank you for the comment. I would love to see your photovoice project and if you are comfortable please share it on your blog for other cohort members as well. I conducted a similar study titled "Campus Snapshot: A qualitative study on perceptions of students’ at the University College of the Fraser Valley" (2007). Using reflexive photography, students were asked to photograph and journal about campus space. You can peruse the study here: http://www.ufv.ca/media/assets/institutional-research/Campus_Snapshot_Study.pdf
As someone who appreciates photography, I hope you decide to capture these cohort conversations!
Have a great evening!
Jacqueline
